Chatsworth was created in 1959 and is located in Brisbane's outer Eastern suburbs. It includes the established suburbs of Camp Hill and Carina in the west and extends eastwards to include Carindale, Belmont, Tingalpa and Gumdale.
Deputy Premier, Terry Mackenroth, first won Chatsworth in 1977 and consolidated his position despite significant new up-market development within the seat. On his resignation from parliament the seat was won in a by-election by incumbent Michael Caltabiano with a 17.7 percent swing, giving him a slim majority of 2.5 percent.
