About Barron River
Barron River was created in the 1971 redistribution. It is the most northerly of the two Cairns based seats. It now extends from Cairns northwards to Trinity Beach and westwards to Kuranda.
Since its creation Barron River has been held by all three major parties. The current member, Lesley Clark (ALP), was first elected in 1989 ending 15 years of National Party incumbency. She was defeated by the Liberals Lyn Warwick in 1995 (in the only three cornered contest at that election) but regained the seat in 1998. She is retiring at this election.
