REDDINGTON, John - GRN
ROSS, Andrea - NP
* STONE, Barbara - ALP WINNER
Springwood, created at the 1985 redistribution, is located in Logan City to the east of the M1 Motorway. It extends from Rochedale South in the north through Springwood, Slacks Creek and Shailer Park to the Logan River.
The fact that Springwood has been held by all three major parties since 1986 points to its electoral volatility. The 2001 election saw an 11 percent swing to Labor despite the fact that the ALP member, Grant Musgrove, was forced to retire because of adverse findings by the Shepherdson Inquiry into electoral malpractice. His Labor successor, Barbara Stone, holds the seat with more than 60 percent of the two-party preferred vote.
Commentary and Analysis
Despite the fact that the Liberal Party most recently held the seat between 1995 and 1998 (as a result of the "koala raod" anti-Labor swing), the National Party will be carrying the Coalition banner on this occasion. It is difficult to see Barbara Stone losing.
