Seat Background

The seat was previously held by NSW Planning and Infrastructure Minister Craig Knowles (ALP), who resigned on 3 August, 2005. Prior to his election in 1990 his father, Stanley Alfred Knowles, held the seat.

This electorate has undergone several name changes in the last two deacades. From 1981-88, the seat was known as Ingleburn. The seat was then renamed Macquarie Fields during 1988-91, Moorebank during 1991-99 and now Macquarie Fields again. Macquarie Fields has experienced a growth of 3,000 new voters in the last two years.
