About Tangney
The Western Australian seat of Tangney covers an area of 70 sq km south of Perth from the Swan and Canning Rivers to the north and east, with Roe Highway forming much of its southern boundary. Main suburbs include Applecross, Alfred Cove, Ardross, Attadale, Bateman, Booragoon, Bull Creek, Ferndale, Langford, Leeming, Lynwood, Melville, Mount Pleasant, Murdoch, Myaree, Parkwood, Riverton, Rossmoyne, Willetton and Winthrop.
Predominantly residential it contains Murdoch University and some light industry.
Seat Background
Tangney is named after Dame Dorothy Tangney, who was the first woman member of the Australian Senate from 1943 to 1968. Since its declaration in 1974, the seat has been been held by the Liberal Party at all but two elections: 1974 (ALP win) and 1983 (ALP win).
