About Paterson

This seat, located on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, and covers the huge 9632 sq. km. area between New England in the north, and Newcastle in the south, with Hunter and Gwydir forming its western border. Producing mostly agricultural products, Paterson is known for its farming, timber, and cattle industries, retirement and tourism industries.

Seat Background

This seat, named after poet Andrew Barton (Banjo) Paterson, was recreated by in the 1993 redistribution after first existing between 1949-84. The seat has changed hands at each of the last four elections, with the same candidates – Bob Horne, Labor, and Bob Baldwin, Liberal – each time.

Demographics

Rural.
