About Parramatta
Located to the west of the Parramatta River,-in Sudney’s western suburbs, this electorate spans about 61 sq. km, from the northerly suburbs of Winston Hills and Carlingford, to the southerly suburbs of Pendle Hill and Ermington. This seats economy is based on retail and other major industry.
Seat Background
Named after the original farming colony, the name derives from the Aboriginal word describing ‘head of river’ or ‘plenty of eels.’ Since it’s formation during Federation, Parramatta has swung between the Labor and Liberal Parties. It was solidly help by the ALP from 1997 until Ross Cameron the current member won it in the 1996 election. Cameron’s hold on the seat is tipped to have slipped as a result of his revelation that he had a relationship with another woman at the same time that his wife was pregnant with twins.
