About Macarthur
Macarthur covers an area on Sydney's southwest of 573 sq km stretching from Badgery’s Creek in the north; east of the Nepean River to the north of Woodbridge Road and part east of Remembrance Drive in the Wollondilly Shire. Main towns include Badgery’s Creek, Bringelly, Camden, Campbelltown, Cobbitty, Leppington, Mount Annan, Narellan and Wedderburn.
It has retail and commercial industry as well as some rural.
Seat Background
Macarthur is named after Captain John and Elizabeth Macarthur, early settlers in Australia and founders of the Australian merino wool industry. It is currently held for the Liberal Party by ultra-marathon runner, Pat Farmer, who succeeded previous incumbent, former NSW state premier and Howard finance minister, John Fahey.
Demographics
Rural, with some metropolitan encroachment.
