About Kooyong

Kooyong is an eastern inner metropolitan electorate covering an area of 49 sq km stretching from Kew and Hawthorn in the west to Balwyn and Canterbury in the east. It also includes North Balwyn in the north, Hawthorn East and Camberwell in the south. Main suburbs include Balwyn, Balwyn North, part of Camberwell, Canterbury, part of Glen Iris, Hawthorn, Hawthorn East, Kew, Kew East and part of Surrey Hills.

Seat Background

Kooyong is named after the Aboriginal word meaning ‘camp or resting place’. It has had six members, all from the conservative side of politics, including Sir John Latham, Sir Robert Menzies,and Andrew Peacock.

Inner Metropolitan.

Fairly safe Liberal.
