About Forde
Forde sits to the south of Brisbane and the immediate west of the Gold Coast electorates and covers an area of 3,166 sq km. It covers from Loganlea, Tanah Merah and Eagleby in the north-east to the eastern borders of Ipswich City and Boonah Shire in the west and to the New South Wales Border in the south. The electorate includes suburbs of Beenleigh and Logan, all of the Beaudesert as well as some parts of the Gold Coast hinterland.
The 2006 redistribution saw Forde lose electors in Esk Shire (to Blair) and Coomera-Cedar Creek (to Fadden). It picked up electors in parts of Loganholme and Tanah Merah (from Fadden).
Seat Background
Forde is named after Francis Michael Forde, a Member of Legislative Assembly from 1917 to 1922, Member of House of Representatives from 1922 to 1946, and Prime Minister of Australia in July, 1945. It is held for the Liberals by Kay Elson.
The seat was first proclaimed in 1984 and was first won by David Watson who subsequently became a state member and leader of the Queensland Parliamentary Liberal Party. The seat was radically redistributed before the 1996 election, changing its character completely.
