About Deakin

Deakin is a Melbourne seat in the outer eastern suburbs. It runs from Blackburn in the west to Croydon in the East. It is primarily a dormitory area with some light manufacturing, commercial and retail industry.

Seat Background

Deakin is named after Sir Alfred Deakin, Australia's second Prime Minister, and a father of both federation and the Liberal Party. The seat was first proclaimed in 1936 and has been held by the Liberal Party throughout its existence, apart from 1983 to 1984, when it was won by Labor. If Labor were to win this election on a uniform swing, Deakin would change hands.

Demographics

Outer Metropolitan.

Commentary and Analysis
