About Cowan

Cowan covers 195 sq kms in Perth's northern suburbs including parts of four Local Government areas – the City of Joondalup, the City of Wanneroo, the City of Bayswater and the City of Swan.

Local industry is mainly service and retail with some light industry and rural.

Seat Background

The seat was first proclaimed in 1984 and is named after Edith Cowan who was the first female member of any Australian parliament. The seat was first held by the Liberal Party, but since 1998 Labor's Graham Edwards has been the member.
