About Braddon

This is a rural Tasmanian electorate in the north-west of the island. It includes King Island, as well as the cities of Burnie and Davenport.

Industry is mostly rural, including some opium poppy growing areas. There are also a number of call centres in the area.

Seat Background

Braddon was first proclaimed in 1955. It was named for Sir Edward Braddon, a former Premier of Tasmania.

The Federal government's proposed takeover of the Mersey hospital has attracted considerable support from the people likely to benefit.
