About Bowman

Bowman covers the whole of the Redlands Shire to the east of Brisbane, along with North Stradbroke Island and some eastern parts of Logan City. It includes the suburbs of Thorneside, Wellington Point in the north to Birkdale, Alexandra Hills, Capalaba, Ormiston, Cleveland, Thornlands, Victoria Point, Mt Cotton, Redland Bay and part of Carbrook in the South.

Part of Carbrook-Cornubia and Loganholme have been transferred to the seat of Rankin following the 2006 redistribution.

Seat Background

Bowman was created in 1949 and is named after David Bowman, a former Queensland state MP. The seat has been held by both major parties. Its former members have included Len Keogh (ALP 1969-75, 1983-87), David Jull (Lib 1975-83), Con Sciacca (ALP 1987-1996, 1998-2004) and Andrea West (LP 1996-98).

Demographics

Outer Metropolitan. Bowman comprises mainly young, middle class, families with above-average median income.

Commentary and Analysis

Fairly safe Liberal.
