About Bendigo

This seat is centred around the town of Bendigo in central Victoria. It covers an area of 7,286 sq kms.

Industries include gold mining, tourism and various rural pursuits.

Seat Background

The seat was proclaimed at federation and is named after its major city. The town of Bendigo was named after a shepherd who lived near the first gold finds on "Bendigo's Flat".

The centre of one of the world's great gold rushes it has regularly been held by both sides of politics.
