About Banks
Located in Sydney's inner south-west, this seat covers an area of approximately 59 sq km bordered by the Georges River in the west and south, the Illawarra railway line, Penshurst Street and Belmore Road in the east, and Marion Street and the railway line running between Bankstown and Punchbowl in the north.
Industries are light manufacturing, commercial and retail.
The 2006 New South Wales redistribution saw Banks gain a strip on its north (from Blaxland) that runs between Milperra Road and Marion Street. The area covers a little over 16,000 electors and covers Bankstown Airport, Condell Park and the southern areas of Manahan and Bankstown. Banks lost eastern areas to the division of Watson. Areas affected include Canterbury - notably northern parts of Narwee and western parts of Roselands and Beverley Hills. Part of Hurstville also went to Watson.
