David Allen

Independent candidate for Bennelong

Business Consultant

Why I am standing

I have Maths and Business degrees and have worked for many years as a business consultant in Australia, the UK and Holland. I spent two years in the Army and have taught in China and Korea. I have built products that are worth millions for several large organizations in Australia and overseas. Australia needs people with scientific skills and ethics in government.

Australians are horrified at the way foreign based experts are destroying the fabric of our infrastructure. I decided to run as an Independent because there was no debate on essential issues during the last election. This “Don’t mention the Debt!” election is even worse, with votes being auctioned - future generations will pay for it. When we add together our Trade Debt, Personal Debt and Government Debt (mostly State and LGA), we reach a figure of about two Trillion dollars.

We need to work towards a Government of National Unity to address key issues on an Australia-wide front, unhindered by party politics. As Frost almost wrote “The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But we have promises to keep, And miles to go before we sleep”. I intend to see that our promises towards the next generation are kept!

Important issues in my electorate

LGAs in Bennelong are currently experience unprecedented levels of project development. Much of this development will result in an increase in traffic, along with its associated pollution and the construction of enhanced Import Infrastructure. The result may put even more pressure on Australia’s terrible balance-of-payments situation. The proposed Economic-Highway from the Airport to Top Ryde may be a complete misnomer, as we will use it to export much less than we import. Intellectuals in Bennelong do not provide sorely needed leadership. The result of the next economic downturn could see some of these new developments start to turn into slums. Residents in Bennelong need to be prepared for any eventual economic downturn, as a significant decline in house prices and ASX indices could have serious implications for their financial viability, as reported by the current and previous governors of Australia’s Reserve Bank. Bennelong needs a vision for the future.

Important policy documents

Economic, social and environmental sustainability is my campaign’s theme.

Economic Sustainability: Tariffs are necessary so we can compete against enormous multinationals. Even if Australians worked for nothing, we would not be able to compete against trillion dollar organizations. Our monthly Trade Deficits are the worst in our history, despite strong world demand for our commodities. Trading with the rest of the world costs Australia about two billion dollars per month, with wealthy experts now saying that “Debt is Good for Australia!” Mr. Greenspan, who is reported to have conducted debt-based experiments with Australia’s economy, called debt-based economics “Voodoo Economics” before he was elevated to power. Business communities in Bennelong, along with about 60% of Americans, favour a formal return to increased tariffs.

Better governance policies are required to stop politicians gouging the country at each election. We need to reduce HIH and AWB types of corruption and the spending on dubious Defense acquisitions and major Import Infrastructure projects such as the Top Ryde Reconstruction just before elections. Major spending initiatives such as the Murray Darling or a new war need to follow strict governance guidelines and should be balanced through the life of a government, preferably to zero. Legal and bank charges should be capped, along with the salaries of CEOs who are responsible for our massive debt levels and for exporting genuine Australian jobs to overseas countries.

Social Sustainability: We need fewer drugs and unwinnable Pyrrhic wars and more education for Australians. Australian schools, colleges and universities should be run by Australian professors and should focus on their primary task – the education of Australians to do scientific and ethical jobs. Our massive police forces should be targeting the Mr. Bigs of organized crime, controlling all imports for illegal drugs that are killing our young. We need to encourage Australian families to nurture and value their children, as even more children become homeless. We need to formulate a just and honourable future for dinkum Indigenous Aussies. We need to reform our religions to give us that Ethical Old Time Religion that cares for the local (and global) environment. Henry Lawson summed Australian society up quite a while ago with the immortal phrases “The gambling and the drinking that are your country’s greatest curse” and “The fate of a nation’s naught compared to the turn of a cricket match”.

Environmental Sustainability: Invaluable resources such as our rivers, wetlands, and culture should be restored under a ratified Kyoto Treaty, leading to genuine environmental sustainability. As we currently channel Bennelong’s water out to sea when it rains, we need to restore Sydney’s beautiful streams and valuable wetlands. As traffic levels through Bennelong increase, police need to control vehicle emissions following the example of our European cousins. Solar and renewable energy are essential for Bennelong’s long term future.

A Government of National Unity is essential to provide a humane and sustainable vision for this glorious country’s next generations.

Good Luck Australia! David Allen
