Elections > Federal Election 2007 > Candidates
Elizabeth Guthrie
The Australian Greens candidate for Brisbane
Candidate
Why I am standing
I will represent the Greens at this Federal election to give the people of Brisbane the positive choice they deserve.
As a small business owner, community activist and parent of a young child I am committed to representing the issues of the families and individuals within my community.
I am driven to represent those who, like me, are disillusioned with the increasingly materialistic, intolerant and economically diven society Australia is becoming.
I am motivated to promote the just and fair policies of the Greens'.
In an election campaign filled with "me too's", professional politicians and party puppets I am determined to provide the people of Brisbane with the opportunity to vote for a real voice of opposition.

Important issues in my electorate
Our children deserve to be cared for in the nurturing environment of not-for-profit, community based childcare by carers who are fairly renumerated for their work.
Those in our community caring for the aged or people with disabilities have the right to increased respite care services and facilities, as well as adequate support and income. The people of Brisbane deserve better public education, health care, affordable housing and access to a world class public transport system.

Important policy documents
The importance of good policy around women's, family and children's issues are paramount in achieving an environment from which our future citizens will emerge. Clear, positive and just policy in these areas will cascade wide reaching benefits into other areas of our society.
These include; long term economic sustainablility with secure employment, affordable housing, choices in childcare and birth, paid maternity leave, health, education, disability services and a nuclear free future for our children.
