The Australian Greens candidate for Blair

Why I am standing

I am running for the Federal election because I feel people need a clearer choice of candidates. I am frustrated that with the warnings on climate change, both major parties are in virtual denial about greenhouse gas emissions. The glaciers are melting now, not in twenty years time; so we need action now. I also feel strongly that with a booming economy there are too many who miss the share of wealth; it is merely concentratng it.

Important issues in my electorate

Goodna Bypass: $3B would be better spent on improving the rail corridor, including electrification to Helidon and doubling capacity to carry freight.

Putting the brakes on development. SEQ is under siege and people are genuinely and reasonably scared about unchecked growth.

There are overlap issues with other levels of government; for example the council amagamations affect some rural parts. I am utterly opposed to not just the amalgamations but the way in which they were carried out. It runs crary to the principles of democracy and representation. Linked also is the Urban Land Development Act, which neutralises any independence by councils.

Iam also concerned that Queensland is the only state to retain Injurious Affection laws. It is untenable with the development frenzy that is eating south east Queensland that unforeseen need for bushland protection cannot be enforced because of the compensation bill to developers. Time to get real.

Important policy documents

Public transport; Solar energy, including photovoltaic and solar thermal; upgrading of facilities at UQ Gatton campus;better alocation of water resourcs away from urban development to rural use, namely sustainable agriculture.
