Toby Byrne
The Australian Greens candidate for Bendigo
Why I am standing
People in Bendigo need the Greens. Our environment and water supply are in a crisis situation. A staggering 25 per cent of people in Bendigo are living on or under the poverty line. Pensioners have been forgotten about. Schools and hospitals are grossly under-funded. We’ve had a Labor member and a Liberal Government for the past decade and this is the state we’re in.
We need a real change.
The convergence of Labor and Liberal over so many issues has left the Greens as the real Opposition. The Greens have never been better prepared and will run the strongest election campaign ever as Australia's third political party.

Important policy documents
The Greens are the only party to genuinely tackle climate change by setting real, short-term emissions targets. We will raise aged pensions by $30 per week, abolish HECS fees and tear up the unfair WorkChoices legislation. We will reallocate the $3.5 billion of health funds going to private insurance companies to public health and hospitals. And we will implement a National Anti-Poverty plan to help those most disadvantaged.
