Charles Worringham
Independent candidate for Ryan
Senior Lecturer at QUT
Why I am standing
Parliament is in greater need than ever of voices other than those of the major parties. My pledge is to offer Ryan positive, constructive, and balanced representation, with the capacity to support the best ideas in Parliament irrespective of their origin. I will establish non-partisan working groups of Ryan residents on all the major issues - Ryan is one of the most educated electorates in the nation and has a great deal to offer this country.

Important issues in my electorate
Whatever their political allegiance, Ryan voters are frustrated by the increasing delays and congestion on the major western corridors. I propose exploration of an elevated busway along the Centenary Hwy and Western Fwy corridor, with feeders from suburbs en route and a connection via a "green' bridge from Bellbowrie. Spend the money on this - not the Goodna bypass. More community facilities are needed in the western suburbs.

Important policy documents
My priorities: health, education, and environment. I propose major incentives for serious preventative health to unburden our hospitals. Substantially increased autonomy for school communities to run their own affairs, de-regulation of universities, thorough overhaul of tertiary funding. Climate change challenges should be seen as enormous scientific, entrepreneurial and governance opportunities. I will work very hard for reform of parliamentary & electoral procedures.
