Geoff Payne
Socialist Alliance candidate for Newcastle
Newcastle branch member
Why I am standing
I work as a construction industry scaffolder in the Hunter Region. My union is the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union. I say "tear up Howard's work choices and abolish Howard's industrial secret police - the Australian Building Construction Authority.
If elected I would only accept a workers' average wage and would donate the rest to campaigns for social justice and action on climate change.
(Statement provided by candidate)
Important issues in my electorate
Urgent action is needed to close the dangerously polluting coal industry and equally urgent action is needed to ensure the transition to sustainable jobs for those communities who have depended on the coal industry.
(Statement provided by candidate)
Important policy documents
Phase out coal ... renewable energy now Troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan now Free quality healthcare for all Free quality education for all Rip up all of work choices Free public transport
