Why I am standing

Jess Moore and the Socialist Alliance are for People before Profits; Planet before Profits. Australia urgently needs a sharp U-turn away from the Liberal government’s policies and Kevin Rudd’s ‘Lite’ version of them. We’re for abolishing ALL of John Howard’s anti-worker laws, including the hated WorkChoices. We’re committed to free & universal education & healthcare, including dental. We stand for quality, well funded public housing and free, reliable public transport. To pay for this we need a major shift in national priorities. Corporate taxes should be raised and military expenditure dramatically reduced. We’re for troops out of Iraq & Afghanistan now and call for an end to the ‘War on Terror’; no more scapegoating Muslims. We stand for Aboriginal land rights, not land grabs; we should not only apologise to Aboriginal people, but negotiate a treaty and also compensation for stolen generations. We’re for urgent and immediate action on climate change starting with the nationalisation of the power industry to help direct a nationwide conversion to renewable energy. Voting is important but we need action to pressure the government, regardless of who’s elected. We aim to help build grassroots movements that are too powerful to be ignored, like the one to bring home troops from the Vietnam War. Triple your vote by voting 1 Socialist Alliance , 2 Greens, and then ALP before Liberal.
