Lindsay Peters
The Australian Greens candidate for Bennelong
Candidate
Why I am standing
I am contesting this election as a Greens candidate to provide the opportunity for citizens of Bennelong to express their desire for a more just and compassionate government, for balance in the Senate, and for the end of the Howard era which has brought us racial intolerance, no action on climate change, the war in Iraq, continued environmental destruction, unjust Industrial Relations legislation and the silencing of dissent.
(Statement provided by candidate)
Important issues in my electorate
The most important issue in Bennelong is the removal of John Howard. This would be a great symbol that Australians are ready to put behind themselves this past 11 years of injustices to refugees, inaction on climate change, continuing destruction of our precious Australian environment, the unjust Work Choices legislation, and the relentless attacks on the foundations of our democracy by silencing debate, persecuting and prosecuting dissenters, and reducing the government's accountability.
