Dawn Jecks
The Australian Greens candidate for Brand
Why I am standing
With a long career as a Geotechnician in the mining sector, Dawn Jecks is acutely aware of the economic and social importance of W.A.’s resources sector.
Following the birth of her son in 1998, Dawn took a greater interest in local issues. A committee member of the Preserve Point Peron for the People Group, she also founded the Rockingham Anti-nuclear Group in 2006 and has been working hard to engage and inform the electorate on nuclear matters.
Dawn joined the Greens in 2005, having become increasingly angry at the actions of our government: the war in Iraq, David Hicks, and the ‘children overboard’ and AWB scandals. She decided that, rather than sit on the sidelines and complain, she would get involved and make a contribution to the effort to right wrongs.
In her local seat of Brand, Dawn’s priorities are water sustainability and coastal and waterways management. Over the past 18 months she has actively campaigned with community groups and local networks. She believes that her demonstrable values of transparency, accountability and inclusiveness have given her campaign a solid start ahead of this year’s Federal Election.
