Why I am standing

Federal Candidate for Fadden
Dr Alex Douglas has lived and worked in and around the Fadden electorate for nearly 20 years. As a family GP, Alex has worked across a variety of local groups and has enormous experience in Queensland's medical system. Alex is the former Member for Gaven in the QLD State Parliament (Gaven is within the Fadden electorate).

Alex has a long history of trying to improve the medical system in QLD. He compelled the QLD State Government to commit $1.3 Billion for the construction of a new hospital in Southport. He has served on the local and state QLD Division's of General Practice. He has been involved as a surveyor in Nationwide Medical Accreditation of General Practice and with the AMA. With a firm commitment to helping people from all walks of life, Alex has been the visiting doctor for the local Numinbah Correctional Facility.

As the father of two teenagers and two adult children, Alex and his wife Susie have been in their children’s schooling, P&F associations and assisting them with their University studies. Alex is very concerned that a strong focus needs to be given to providing affordable housing for families and students within the Fadden Electorate.

Alex has a plan and vision for the Fadden electorate. He understands the concerns of students, families, retiree's, small business owners and farmers. Alex has a real commitment to improving facilities for youth on the Gold Coast. He has been formally involved in drug and alcohol education programs in local schools.

Alex has a strong interest in the Gold Coast racing industry and serves as the honorary doctor to the Gold Coast Turf Club. He is a keen swimmer and golfer. He is keen to protect our local lifestyle and improve basic services.

He is married to Susie Douglas who is a serving Councillor on the Gold Coast City Council.

Important issues in my electorate

Healthcare - Parklands Hospital must be built by 2012 ,950 fully funded beds to a first world standard.The present hospital must not be affected nor the beds merely transferred.
Major Networked Transport plan to be developed and implemented ,incorporating public transport links to the rail and to the east coast and the south .
Housing that young families can afford to build ,finance and share.
