Cate Molloy
Independent candidate for Wide Bay
INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE FOR WIDE BAY
Why I am standing
I am running because I passionately believe democracy is being stifled by party machines. The Major Parties have lost their way, are self interested and no longer listen to the people. Members of Parliament should vote according to the wishes of their constituents and not be muzzled by the party to tow the party line. I commit to Stopping the Traveston Dam and Stopping Queensland's Forced Amalgamations by introducing Federal legislation to over-ride the State legislation in accordance with the community's wishes.

Important issues in my electorate
Wide Bay must be contextualized as it has among the nation's highest unemployed and homeless people and is comparatively very poor. There are three major community centres: Noosa, Gympie and Maryborough. The three feel very let down and under siege due to forced amalgamations and the proposed Traveston Dam. The issues arising for each community vary and are shared. The Traveston Dam and Forced Council Amalgamations are hugely shared concerns, while the issue of homelessness and unemployment is hidden and yet to be addressed by governments of all levels and persuasions.
