Australian Labor Party candidate for Mackellar

ALP Candidate for Mackellar

Why I am standing

I have had a passion for politics most of my life and when Mackellar voters go to the polls on November 24, they will be making a choice between two very different leaders and policies. I believe that only Kevin Rudd has fresh ideas for Australia’s future. He is genuinely in tune with working families, who increasingly have to deal with the rising cost of living. Members of a Rudd Labor Government will be economic conservatives who all fervently believe in the importance of keeping interest rates low by keeping the budget in surplus and also maintaining the independence of the Reserve Bank. They will act urgently and decisively on important issues such as climate change. Labor will introduce workable measures to combat global warming and reduce greenhouse gases by developing renewable energy, such as solar power, as well as supporting clean coal technology. A Rudd Labor Government will protect the wages and conditions of working families from John Howard’s extreme Work Choices legislation, thereby providing fairness and balance in the workplace. Like Kevin Rudd, and as the Mackellar Labor candidate I fervently believe in keeping our economy strong by investing in an education revolution. This will involve not only the introduction of trade centres in schools but also new and innovative literacy and numeracy programs that will ensure that each child maximises his or her own potential. Only a vote for Kevin Rudd and Labor on November 24 will ensure that “the fair go” does not disappear from Australian society. We need to once again re-establish fairness, balance and security so that we can proudly look to the future with genuine hope and enthusiasm.

Important issues in my electorate

The main local issues I feel which are utmost in Mackellar are the poor road accesses into the peninsular, and the continual improvement of local education and health services.

By finally increasing the width of both Mona Vale Road and Wakehurst Parkway can we then implement dedicated Bus Ways to improve the public transport to main transport hubs like North Ryde and Chatswood.

I also want to see direct federal funding go into the newly proposed hospital at Frenchs Forest so it can be built sooner and more funding to upgrading facilities at the current Mona Vale Hospital with possibly a stronger focus on the aged care servcies.

Important policy documents

Our main policy directions are:

1: Education revolution;
2: National plan to fix our hospitals;
3: Decisive action on climate change;
4: Balance and fairness in the workplace;
5: Maintaining our national security; and
6: A strong economy that delivers for working families.
