About Flinders
Flinders covers an area of 2089 sq km south-east of Melbourne from Portsea in the south west to Mt Martha, Baxter, Cranbourne South, Kooweerup and Lang Lang along the northern sector to San Remo and Dalyston in the south east.
It has steel mills as well as rural industries.
The division surrounds and encompasses Western Port Bay including French Island and Phillip Island. The main towns include Rye, Rosebud, Dromana, Hastings, Baxter, Kooweerup, Nyora, Cowes, San Remo and Dalyston.
Seat Background
First proclaimed at Federation, Flinders is named after Matthew Flinders, a well-known navigator and explorer who was the first to circumnavigate Australia. Currently held for the Liberal Party by Greg Hunt, the previous incumbent was Peter Reith.
