About Dobell

Dobell is on the mid-north coast of New South Wales a couple of hours drive from Sydney. It covers an area of 952 sq km and takes in rural areas and seaside towns. Most of the constituency is composed of young families and retirees, many of whom are in pursuit of privacy and less expensive real estate than is available in Sydney. Population centres include such noteworthy suburbs as Bateau Bay, Berkley Vale, Terrigal, The Entrance and Wyong.

Seat Background

Dobell was founded in 1984 and named after artist Sir William Dobell. Dobell was held by Labor's Michael Lee, who was a former Minister for Communications and Tourism and the Arts. Lee was defeated in 2001 as a result of a fall in Labor support.
