Maurice Foley
Independent candidate for Solomon
Why I am standing
To promote philosophy as that which distinguishes us from all other animals; To promote “Commonsense” political philosophy; To promote the search for better ways to live as a group - i.e. ways which promote happier, more secure individual lives; To promote more intelligent assessment of what we already know of the various ways in which we have been living; To promote community discussion of the concepts of “honour”, “good” etc.; To encourage a wider field of candidates in future elections; To provide something other than stupidity, lies, fear, loathing for people to vote for!

Important issues in my electorate
In the admittedly unlikely event that I am elected, this is how I will deal with Your Favourite Issue, and any other issue - and if I happened to be in the balance of power situation, I will look to "guaranteeing supply" to a party or coalition which will include the following in its initial programme:
1. Hold a Royal Commission into Royal Commissions – with the particular aim of deciding a transparent process for setting the terms of reference of all future Royal Commissions. 2. Hold a Royal Commission with the particular aim of deciding what the role and responsibilities of Government are – ensuring ending the current abuse of the Westminster system and neglect of the principles of separation of powers (e.g., executive from the press and military), which have underpinned the rise of the common man from being a pawn of Chieftain or of Church or of King, to having the great opportunity to progress himself that is available to almost all in our beautiful and powerful western European style liberal democratic society. 3. Hold a Royal Commission with the particular aim of deciding how we will assess delivery of public works and services, and how we will share them between the generations - including the billions of people yet to come. 4. Hold a Royal Commission with the particular aim of deciding what we mean by sustainable development, and deciding transparent processes for assessing our environmental performance, and making it clear that what we are sustaining is Gaia (Mother Earth) and conditions for developing human and other life. 5. Hold Royal Commissions into individual issues (one of which is Your Favourite Issue)to set related goals across the spectrum. 6. Set up a transparent process to assess the politicians performance by how they achieve the commonsense, related goals we set them, not, like during election campaigns on vague or irresponsible promises to current Australians.

Important policy documents
Vote 1 Conscious Love ...
Definition: "Politics is the Art of the Application of Conscious Love to sustain and develop human life"
Currently, our political systems fail to recognise what we actually are – embodied members of an on-going group, whose beautiful individual existence would be meaningless, therefore directionless, therefore impossible outside the group.
While we decide to vote using values which are inconsistent with this fundamental fact of life, we are wanking – spraying our potential uselessly around, blinding ourselves (metaphorically speaking, of course!) with it - rather than seeing, accepting and mixing in with others in a loving way - for what they really are, for what you really are, for what I really am – fellow elements in an on-going River of Life.
