Annolies Truman
Socialist Alliance candidate for Pearce
Why I am standing
Strangely, more than half the candidates standing for Pearce do not live in the electorate, including the sitting member. I am well known in the Hills area as a peace campaigner. When the invasion of Iraq was being organised I was outraged that such blatant lies could be used to justify killing. I helped found the Hills No War Alliance, which is the most successful suburban anti-war group in Perth. Now, I find myself standing as a candidate because peace, social justice and truth in government have become such vital issues.

Important issues in my electorate
Create a properly funded, democratically managed Commission for Sustainablity to mobilise local communities to tackle environmental problems. Only such a Commission could deal with the problems of salinity in our wheat lands.
Pay wheat farmers for wheat that has been delivered to Iraq.

Important policy documents
For Medicare, not Warfare - bring the troops home from Iraq now. Extend Medicare to cover the full cost of essential health services and phase out private health insurance. Repeal all "anti-terrorist" legislation. Return stolen Aboriginal wages, repeal the Native Title Act and implement real land rights. Close down the refugee detention centres.
