Jeannie Walker
Independent candidate for Makin
Why I am standing
I am running as a candidate 'against animal cruelty' because as a mother of three young children, I am horrified by what our children are currently being taught it is ok to do to animals for the sake of money. Live animal exports, intensive farms such as sow stalls and battery farms must make us question where are moral conscience has gone. We must make it clear that we cannot condone massive orchestrated suffering of millions of animals for the sake of money. Acting in a premeditated cruel manner towards animals cannot be validated by profit for some.

Important issues in my electorate
I am very concerned with children and the effects of constantly being subjected to visions of animals being treated without respect. There are clearly researched links between early cruelty to animals and domestic violence and child abuse. People who are cruel to animals are much more likely to pass on this abuse to their partner, children and the general public in the form of violence. If we continue to allow the downward spiral of a society which allows blatant cruelty to be protected by law or governments then what are we teaching our future generations?

Important policy documents
I want an immediate ban on live animal exports and serious reviews into the manner in which 'factory' animals are kept. Pigs and chickens in particular are not a commodity. They are living, breathing creatures who deserve basic freedoms. They must not be crammed into wire and concrete stall or cages for their miserable short lives without the opportunity to ever express their natural tendencies. The emotional pain and suffering that we inflict upon these trusting animals must not be tolerated
