Karen Bailey
Australian Democrats candidate for Dunkley
Why I am standing
I am standing as an Australian Democrat candidate because I believe the people of the Dunkley electorate need strong representation within the Lower House from a member who is willing to fight for their rights instead of always having to cede to Party lines.

Important issues in my electorate
The residents of Dunkley deserve better access to safe public transport, affordable educational opportunities and better access to health and medical facilities, including drug dependency and mental health programs as well as aged care facilities.
The Federal Government needs to look closely at the proposed channel deepening of Port Phillip Bay. This project needs Federal approval under Federal environmental legislation and the Federal Government has the authority to stop it, if it affects threatened species. The Democrats believe that this project has the potential to cause serious environmental damage to Port Phillip Bay and its ecosystems with little economic gain for the people of Victoria.

Important policy documents
The Democrats act in the best interests of Australia. We are not beholden to big business, unions or any single issue group and we are independent of both major Parties.
The Democrats are keeping the Senate strong, pursuing both Labor and Liberal and holding them to account, exposing the truth through Senate committees and inquiries. This is crucial to our democracy.
The Democrats work hard on all the issues, we listen to all sides and we evaluate each and every piece of legislation on its merits. We make the hard decisions - not for our own political gain, but acting in the long-term interest of all Australians.
