Alan Bailey
Australian Democrats candidate for Deakin
Why I am standing
Australians are not hearing the truth from the government about issues that have the greatest affect on us, our families or our nation. The government holds itself above all suspicion and will not subject itself to independent review or auditing. The government does not actively listen to those interest groups that are closest to the issues affecting Australians of all walks of life.
I will restore a fair and balanced representation of the people of Deakin in our federal parliament; and I will push for the necessary reforms to keep the government and members of parliament accountable and honest.
I will invite the people of Deakin, particularly the volunteer interest groups, to regular open forums where all activities and actions of the elected member will be reported upon and open for review. These forums will be designed to keep the member accountable and will also be an opportunity to identify issues requiring the attention of the government of the day.
I am focused on these issues: • Introduction of legislation necessary for government accountability • Restoring Medicare to a health system for the nation • Restoring federal funding for pre-schools • Improving funding for secondary schools • Removal of HECS fees for tertiary education • Promotion of value-add to Australian business exports • Raising the tax free threshold to $10,000 • Just recognition of the contribution by our veterans and older Australians • Improving home services for Aged Care • Introducing anti-competition policies to support small business • Upholding the declaration of human rights • The development of renewable energy
I have 14 years experience in the energy industry, and have lived in the eastern suburbs for nearly 40 years. I was raised, schooled and have worked in the area. My wife and I are now raising our own family. We have one child & one on the way.
