I offer innovative ideas and good management skills to improve our political system and our lives. My policies and ideas can be seen in the election pamphlet delivered to each home and in detail on the website peterthyer.com.
The really big issues of World Peace, Inequality in Australia, Soaring foreign debt, Protection of Rivers, and Reform of government need immediate action. The Howard government has made the world and our lives less safe by invading Iraq. They have sold our assets and slashed services. We are told there are not enough workers to support an ageing population, but this government has entrenched youth unemployment and reduced access to education.
The so-called Free Trade Agreement with the USA will allow increased American take-overs in all our industries, and will allow those companies to dictate social, quarantine and environmental policy to our government. The FTA can and should be cancelled before coming into force in January 2005.
I have worked in Local Government for 14 years, as Parks Manager at Manly and in development assessment at Willoughby. At Manly I managed construction of the Manly Scenic Walkway and replanting of Norfolk Island pine trees on the beachfront. With 25 years of small business ownership and post-graduate qualifications in management, I recognise that Australian business must prosper to create community wealth and opportunities.
