Len Harris
Pauline Hanson's One Nation candidate for Queensland
Senator for Queensland
Why I am standing
Dear Friends and Supporters,
On October 9, we will make one of the most important decisions about the future of our country: who will govern?
My experiences as your Senator over the last six years have clearly demonstrated that the Liberal-National Coalition and Labor are not poles apart politically, but are converged. Time and time again, I have seen legislation initiated by the Coalition and supported by Labor.
Harmful legislation that has destroyed jobs, small businesses and family farms is supported by both parties. The similarities between their policies far outweigh any differences that they have. Labor and the Coalition both support the WTO’s free trade and globalisation agenda, deregulation of farming, the sale of all public assets which include Telstra and the eventual privatisation of Australia Post, our hospitals and the education system.
Of particular concern is that if Labor is elected on October 9, we will have Labor in power federally and in all states. This means the ALP will have full power to implement a hike in the GST. Remember, the GST can only be increased if the federal government and all states agree. They will also have full power to privatise and charge you for water and to implement a Labor socialist agenda with a big spending deficit. This will place an unacceptable financial burden upon working Australians and their families. It will be your money that pays for their big splurge.
Regardless of whether Labor or the Coalition wins government on Saturday, the same policies will be forced upon us. The same policies implemented by different faces. It is therefore very important to keep One Nation in the Senate so that I can continue to oppose bad legislation and support good legislation.
During the last federal election, the Coalition and Labor collectively received more than $50 million in political donations and at the end of the day, corporate donors get the political policies that they pay for. One Nation stands proudly apart from these converged parties. We refuse corporate donations and we speak up for Queensland in the Senate.
On October 9, I am asking you to keep One Nation’s fierce and fearless voice in the federal parliament. In the Senate, Vote 1 above the line for One Nation. It is my commitment to you that if re-elected for another term in the Senate, I will continue to serve each individual Australian and to stand truly by each of you and fight to defend our rights and liberties. God Bless you.
Yours faithfully,
Len Harris

Important issues in my electorate
In this campaign, One Nation will focus on four key issues:
• small business • agriculture and fishing • families and marriage • property rights
Why are these issues so important?
Official figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics indicate that the number of farming families in Australia decreased by 22% between 1986 and 2001. If this trend continues at the present rate, more than half of Australia's family farms will be lost within the next 15 years. One Nation will stop this terrible Agricide with tariff protection for our farmers, strengthening of quarantine laws and by opposing free trade and deregulation which are wrecking Australia’s rural heartland.
Small Business is the major employer in Australia and is the cornerstone of the economy. One Nation recognises this basic, essential truth and our small business policy, released last month places small business at the heart of our economy. Our policy encourages and protects small business, while recognising the need for free enterprise. One Nation gives small business a hand up, not a hand out.
The nuclear family, the cornerstone of Australian community life is in crisis. The marriage rate trend since 1981 shows that the occurrence of marriage is declining. In 2001 there were 103,100 marriages registered in Australia, the lowest number recorded since 1978. In the same year, 55,300 divorces were granted, the highest number granted in the last 20 years. This is the truth about our family unit. Family love and stability are no longer a given for our children and grandchildren. One Nation’s family policies restore the family unit. The nuclear family is at the centre of One Nation’s policy platform, not a casualty of it.
Concern over property rights is one of the top political issues in Queensland. The resounding message from voters is that property owners are being treated badly and their rights deserve more protection. Today we are facing a plethora of assaults upon private property ownership. Within the current legislative apparatus, a deliberate and quite candid attack on private property ownership is occurring. One Nation is committed to defending the property rights of landholders and we demonstrate our commitment through tireless work including a current High Court Challenge to clarify landholder’s property rights.
